I've never tried personally, but quite sure Monkey Bar and Korat Chef in Korat city proper, have fish and chips.

Moving from the city center East on Mittraphap Road, past Terminal 21, new bus station and Makro, out to the Choho/Joho area of town:

The Ram Bar/pub, which is very close to the Pegasus hotel traffic junction just past Makro.

Lecker Lecker, which is roughly 1/2 way between the big Pegasus hotel traffic junction and Joho, tucked back in there a bit.

River Bar/Restaurant in Joho.  Open 5 days, closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

O&D Pub. 6 days, closed Wednesday.  Extensive menu, all sorts of Western/German menu items you don't see elsewhere.

-Nok Bar in Joho had as well, but sadly they took a hard hit during the COVID lockdown and will not be re-opening.   :(
- Further afield in the opposite direction, out by the big SUT University, there's "Coffee Pitini" restaurant with a robust Western menu.
- Uwe's place out on the new bypass, "Mah Kaeng" - spelling probably not correct.
- Captain Noi's further out past Uwe's place.

If you use Facebook, there's an interactive map of Korat's various restaurants, bars/pubs and other services on "Expats in Korat" Facebook page.   Each venue mentioned above also has its own presence on Facebook, some on Trip Advisor.  Google up the names or link to them from the Expats in Korat FB page.

Blimey - some of those name places take me back!

Is the Ram still open? It never seemed to be and there used t be a quiz night there as well.

Fish and chips in Pitini - I wouldn't bother if I was you. But then again, I think out of desperation for farang food, it did well, but I didn't really enjoy anything much there at all, being honest.

Korat Chef - have they opened a restaurant now? It was good for their pies and sausage and the like, but as a place to buy from, not to eat there. The George and Dragon is next door.

Good list TJD. Seems there's still lots of falang food around Korat.

Welcome 'P' - the Monkey Bar and George and Dragon do that sort of food well (and a good all day breakfast? ). Korat Chef sell a range of pies, pasties, sausages, steaks and microwave meals and much more. I like Korat Chef - many moons ago, my enthusiasm led to me being accused on KFart of being an investor Ha Ha !

Caller you should try Pitini's fish and chips again - on Monday two of us enjoyed a real feast - sometimes it's better than others of course, but Monday it was just excellent  :D  And their cooked breakfast - yum ! Some Friends eat there regularly and in the past, so have I. For me, Pittini have a wider range for farang meals than most places, including the favourites. Lacks a bit of atmosphere for me but usually, a great nosh  ;D  https://coffeepitini.com/

Nice to get out for food AND a beer again isn't it ?

Hi CK re. the G & D I think so. 'Chez Andy' - last went there for my 65th birthday which was long ago. Well remembered  ;)

You have just summed up one of the things wrong with the place - sometimes it's better than others, followed by 'of course' . Why?

I had fish and chips there and thought it poor value. I had brekky there based on recommendations and thought it poor (German sausages for an English Breakfast!!!). I had quite a few meals there and apart from their baguette offerings, which I liked, so ate, found it all very average at best. I tell you, at one time it probably was the place to go for farang food in Korat, out of desperation. But I just cooked my own and ate Thai when I went out.

Korat doesn't have a range of farang food to compare with BKK or Hua Hin maybe, but IMO, WardP would be missing out if he didn't try Pitini for himself. It's a very popular choice for farang and Thais - a group of 4 of my Friends eat there at least once a week and have done so for a decade. .

I think all restaurants can vary a little as Chefs come and go, Staff days off, busy or not and after all, no one's talking about Michelin stars here.

My fish and chips last Monday was top drawer anyway  :)

In my opinion, compared to other "normal" Thai cities (not the tourist/farang magnets), Korat holds its own in the shopping and farang food department.  May feel sparser than it actually is because the venues are spread out.

You're right about the dispersal TJD.

I lived Dan Kwian side for 7 years and never really ventured past my locality and the City to Joho side, which I now regret. Another of my favourites was Garden Restaurant in Chok Chai, Pizza and Austrian falang type food - sadly now closed I believe.

I certainly agree for shopping. Korat must be the best served real city. And I agree about the issue with everywhere so spread out.

But tell me anywhere in Korat that can do an English brekky as good as the Blues Bar in Khon Kaen, which actually opens at a time many want to eat breakfast. I think the fact there isn't an actual centre to the city puts off potential farang investors. Look how many places have floundered.

Interesting point about tourist cities. As in Hua Hin, where I am, so many restaurants rely on the expat market, as tourism alone won't sustain them.

Is the G&D still open?

I heard it had closed for good. Perhaps someone living nearby can confirm either way.
