Doubtless some Franchisees make good money from 7/11. But . . .

At Laem Sing a beach resort close to Chan used mainly by Thais, there was one 7/11.

Then the Landlord tried to put the rent up. The business then rented a larger piece of land 50 metres away, the other side of the lively daily open market and built a far bigger 7/11. Then the landlord of the 1st 7/11 reduced his rent and the Franchisee now has 2 large 7/11's almost adjacent.

And a BigC mini, a CJ, and a Tesco Freshie - all within the last year or two.

Taking on a 7/11 can be a success but you get no stability  - another over the road or next door. might appear. In Chan, a massive one just opened 50 metres away from another. In about a mile there can be 3,4,5  . . .

I see the 7/11 that bespoiled the foreground of Korat's lovely Kwan Ruen Park Hotel has been closed after only a few years - someone no doubt lost a packet, again.

Off topic but I chuckled when I heard this - era 1910, the Cinema at Skipton used a long pole with a boxing glove to subdue rowdy watchers from the aisle. Wonderful - bring it back   ;)

I stayed there many years ago, when the Chinese were doing an exercise with the Thai air force. Understandably the Chinese pilots (including at least one woman pilot) kept their distance from the only farang in building. I was tempted to deliberately engage them in conversation to see their reaction (knowing that they must all speak English - but would no doubt pretend not to).

I had to go on Google Streetview to check out that 7-11. Agree completely. So now there's an empty, ugly blot on the roadside. Hopefully someone will have some vision and create great coffee shop or decent restaurant/ bar.

Coming from the centre, there's a great Coffee Bar about 100m past KWPH on the edge of the Bung Ta Lua spread. I stayed at the 'Resort' next door last week - 8th floor - massive room - lovely views and the hotel breakfast for B1000.

Just love that spot in Korat . . . .
