…....and all best wishes for the coming year to all Kfers! What have we got to look forward to?
First, I suppose we have the annual death toll on the roads for the New Year, the Chinese New Year and Songkran (Thai New Year). In my 25 years here it hasn't got any better and I see no reason why it should improve much this year in spite of 3,500 police check points!
Next, we have the presumed influx of Chinese tourists, bringing with them a potential resurgence of Covid. Maybe not. But I see in the BP today that even the Thai govt is considering health checks of some sort. Hmmmm.
Next, is the election in May and the Dept of Dirty Tricks and Skulduggery is already in action. Still, as a farang, it's nice to be able to view it all from the touchline knowing that whatever the result a) we can't do anything about it and b) it probably won't affect out lives that much – unless Big Joke becomes PM!
After that, well who knows? The war in the Ukraine ain't gonna end tomorrow, prices here (and everywhere) will no doubt continue to rise, especially fuel and electricity, Uncle Xi is already calling Putrid his “dear friend” and Taiwan is extending conscription – just in case. The situation in the UK makes the Winter of Discontent of 78'79 look positively tranquil and climate change is proving to be not just a fairy story. Otherwise, I suppose that we can all hope for a better 2023 – as long as we don't hold our breath!
Chok dee everyone!
