Question is  will someone In the republicans try to take over his base pandering to all the conspiracy theories and BS.

I think Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley are already aiming to step into his shoes and inherit his base. Both are eyeing runs for president in 2024. Neither represents the best of the Republican party (they should both be booted-out).

Or will the GOP be able to purge that element and start over?

I hope the purge is of a particular mindset; the conspiracy theory/ fake news/ neo-fascist element that Trump leveraged to devastating effect. And I hope it causes the evangelical christian part of the Republican party to take a close look at themselves and who they were prepared to endorse; the people who should have been the moral compass proved to be anything but that, as long as 'their man' looked like he would deliver their agenda. Perhaps a more thoughtful Republican leadership will emerge and US politics will have a sensible balance again.

The big question is how are the Democrats going to unite the 75 million people who voted for Trump. From Joe's speech is is going to make war on racists and white supremists which is what the Democrats called Trump supporters. I think this will be another dark 4 years in American history.

RDRO - fair enough but we hear that Trump is now widely accused of betraying those interests, when he had been forced into making calmer comments after the Capitol shenanigans. I think we should try to be optimistic that Biden can tap into the baser instincts of the wild bunch and that things can better in the USA. ATB

I don't think Biden is strong enough to rain in big tech which is censoring freedom of speech. One of the founding principles of the United States that Americans cherish is the right to freedom of speech. Enshrined in the First Amendment to the Constitution, freedom of speech grants all Americans the liberty to criticize the government and speak their minds without fear of being censored or persecuted.

Someone in a Pub said once (not me), 'if that's so, my c*cks a kipper'    ::)

Ex-President Trump - ""I think we won substantially".

"Donald Trump teased a potential a second run for office and admitted he misses being president as he broke his silence in a blitz of right-wing cable news interviews on Wednesday night. The former US president continued to repeat false claims that he was the rightful winner of the 2020 election, telling Fox News: "I think we won substantially"."

Horrifying - USA deaths now top 505 thousand at a rate of 1521 deaths per million of population. IMO the link below is a good read - insights from Dr Fauci on Trump's poor handling of the pandemic : "The US, with four per cent of the world’s population, has now suffered 20 per cent of global deaths from Covid-19 . . . . "

For us Brits, a sobering thought that the UK has recorded 1753 deaths per million - yes, so far, we've managed to 'trump' Trump's masterly efforts   ???    ::)

Good old Donald ! That's the way !

"Donald Trump has released a charity single, recorded with a choir of men held in a Washington DC prison for their parts in the deadly January 6 insurrection he incited. On Friday, Justice for All by Donald J Trump and the J6 Prison Choir was available on streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.

The move is the latest in a growing trend by Trump and others on the far right of US politics to embrace the January 6 attack on the Capitol as a political cause and portray many of those who carried it out as protesters being persecuted by the state
."
