The rules were known at the outset. My biggest gripe is that I was trying to watch it on cricfree but it was repeatedly crashing and though I saw England's super over I missed the NZ reply and had to rely on the BBC text commentary. Could Lord's not have provided a better wicket for a showpiece final?
But what a day for sport in the UK, an amazing Lord's final, a gripping Wimbledon final, and a Hamilton win in the British grand prix.

Here we go again then  ;)  A bit of 'proper' cricket starts tomorrow with another Ashes series . . .

As usual, Geoffrey Boycott has something to say - I love it !

''If England are going to beat Australia then they will have to bat better than them. It is simple. Can we make enough runs to give our bowlers a chance? Our first three in the batting order have been so flaky for so long that nobody has any confidence they can deliver a good start. Too often England are 30 or 40 for three, fighting an uphill battle hoping Joe Root and our superb middle order can get us out of jail. That is a recipe for losing Test matches. You can get away with it against new boys Ireland but against the big boys it becomes a mountain to climb.

You can never win a Test match on the first day but you sure as hell can lose it if you mess up your batting
.''

Kick off at 5pm tomorrow  8)

English Cricket - in ashes it is  ::)  As the Pundits are observing, England were beaten after having the Ozzies 122-8 on the 1st morning. That's quite a turnaround ! Maybe it would have been better if the Barmy Bully Boys hadn't taunted Steve Smith and David Warner quite so boldly  :D

Undoubtedly Anderson, Wood and Archer were missed. Moeen needs a rest.

Changes coming but will England improve . . . . ?

Just MO, but winning the 50 over World Cup was good fun but it's not WW2 FGS - 2 weeks or more should be enough to get over the physical and emotional highs   ::)  and sadly the England Test Team get no sympathy from me.

Same same my School Reports - MUST DO BETTER !!!!!

Finely balanced for Day 5 of the Test which England must not lose  ::)

If the Aussies are set 200 runs with Archer coming in at 96 mph  :o  who knows ?
But if England lose an early wicket or two - the Aussies can romp home again.

Looks like a late night.

Jivvy. 359 to win  ;)  8 sessions and 2 1/2 days to get them. Dead bat stuff needed - the bowlers will soon tire !

Once I batted 44 overs for Wroughton 2nds against Box for 21 not out  ;D  That's the way - (btw Box were fuming).

I hear Jack Leach may be opening the batting. One wag on BBC commented that England will be 150-0 at close today and all out for 159 tomorrow   :o   :o

Come on England - take your time !

England will do well to take the Test into Sunday. What can be done to improve the team? Is Root's captaincy affecting his batting? Who else could be captain? Stokes? Buttler?

All out 159 tomorrow ? Still possible with this lot  ;)
But heads bl**dy down Boys and grind that victory out !
TWO full days - just 100 runs a day needed  8)

Teess re. improving the team, Geoff Boycott reckons that these Players are just about the best we've got and it's about ATTITUDE - I agree with him.

That said, Bairstow the great is struggling so what about Ben Foakes. Sam Curran ?
These Ozzies are tough and save their aggro for the Brits - Cummins, Hazlewood and Pattinson are going to make us suffer for Steve Smith's injury.

Come on England !

Absolutely brilliant Ben Stokes! I had just about given up when they went 7 down and put Man City on. A quick check 10 mins later and they were 9 down still needing more than 70 with Stokes on 80 not out. As the final whistle went at Bournemouth I discovered that they were now only 18 short of victory, Stokes on 115 and Leach still on 0. Australia wasted their last review, then Lyon fumbled the ball and failed to run out Leach, then Stokes was trapped in front by Lyon but not given. Leach scrambled his first run to get off strike and Stokes smashed the winning runs.

Fair enough Jivvy. I expected the criticism England suffered after their 67 to motivate them - but in the event I too was surprised they made it. Of course there's an element of luck in all results - England had some notable good fortune in the World Cup against New Zealand and again against the Aussies yesterday - but we'll take the wins   ;)

Stokes' all out assault to win the game will be endlessly glorified and rightly so. But I hope the slog minded England batsmen will not forget the loadsa hard work and hanging on in there needed before we could get into contention.

The 4th Test will be a tight battle with Smith back for the Aussies and Anderson back for England ?

Brilliant - well done England !  I see there are daft calls for a Knighthood for Stokes  ::)

Here we are again  >:(

England need to hold out all day long with 8 wickets left. Apparently England played much better in the Aussie's second innings but the game looks out of reach.

Jivvy - any predictions ?  8)

TW I'm sure your prediction will be closer than Jivvy's   ;)

Jivvy - an 8 wicket win for England   ::)   I wish   :o

IF England today can make a good start - the Aussies will have the 3rd Test in mind and as they tire, maybe they could lose their way. But I can't see England pulling off another escape without major help from the rain   8)

Is the 5th Test at the Oval this week ?

Leopards and spots - re.Steve Smith (DT) :-

''Declaring that playing England was “like Christmas every day” was clearly aimed at Joe Root and his sometimes passive captaincy. Claiming he “didn’t hear” Matthew Wade harmlessly sledging Jofra Archer when he (Smith) was standing a few yards away was also questionable. Memories are still sharp of Smith giggling his way through the Brisbane press conference in which Bancroft hammed-up the Jonny Bairstow nightclub ‘headbutt’ incident. There has also been a creeping sense that Smith is taking the mickey out of England’s bowlers with his elaborate leaves and by throwing himself to the ground so much at Old Trafford.''

Be good to win this one !
