Alexander Albon: Toro Rosso deal for 2019 for British-born Thai driver.

Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso have signed Alexander Albon to compete their line-up for 2019.

Albon, 22, was born in London but races under a Thai flag. He joins rookies Lando Norris at McLaren and George Russell at Williams and five-time champion Lewis Hamilton.

Albon has been given a second chance by Red Bull after being dropped from their driver programme in 2012.
He replaces New Zealander Brendon Hartley at Toro Rosso

Alexander Albon is the second Thai driver to have raced in F1. Prince Bira raced from 1950-54. In the 2nd WW he was Chief Instructor at RAF St Merryn training glider pilots. Quite a Guy !

In addition to Britain’s 4 wheel World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, Britain has two 2 wheel Champions in 2018.

Johnathan Rea won the World Superbike (highly modified production machines) title and former Wolverhampton Wolves rider Tai Woffinden recently won the World Speedway Championship.

I suppose Lewis Hamilton has to be applauded in forever publicising the shocking deaths of black people in the USA but, somehow, I wish he would comment in his own time and let us enjoy the racing event unalloyed. IMO the intrusion of such matters should be against the rules. Never mind, I am a great Lewis fan and he notches up yet another win, with a pile of debris behind him

I agree, keep politics out of sports, he has the whole of F1 crumbling under that woke meme. Even having MB paint everything black, time to get back to silver.
A great race from the spectator view,
If one watches the replay from the front of the race, there is a long shot showing Bottas just straightening out and smoke coming from the rear of the pack.
I think the big green light boards near the back of the grid should not be there, as the drivers would and did assume that the race leader was at full speed crossing the line.

So it's the last Race at Abu Dhabi and FWIW I think Lewis would be crazy to participate, he doesn't look well enough to me and after all, nothing is left at stake.

After George Russell's amazing efforts last weekend, is Bottas' positon safe in the Mercedes team ? It seems Alexander Albon may be out of favour and Sergio Perez is on the move.

Alex Albon, as expected, has been replaced by Sergio Perez at Red Bull Racing. He will remain as Red Bull's reserve driver,

"Alex Albon is confident that ex-Formula 1 front runners Williams can continue their rise up the order in the sport this season. After finishing last of the 10 teams on the grid back in 2020, the British manufacturer climbed up to eighth last season with six points finishes including George Russell’s podium finish at the Belgian Grand Prix.

After a year out from the sport having been dropped by Red Bull, Albon returns to the F1 grid to replace the Mercedes-bound Russell.

And speaking at the launch of the livery of the team’s new car, the FW44, on Tuesday, the British-born Thai driver said: “It’s a team really on the climb and it’s exciting to be part of this journey. Hopefully I’m able to use a bit of what I know to bump it along the way. I’ve had a year out to see things from a different perspective.”
