Yes Teess but having batted again, if the Windies had been out cheaply (which they weren't of course), England might have had a gettable target anyway . . . . .

The weather doesn't seem to be a worry this time. But, where there is the possibility of bad weather, it's easy for the team on top to run out of time having enforced the follow on. Any hurricanes around yet ?

(That's all we can hope for).

Often in these situations a side bats to say 400 ish for 3 wickets and then all out for not much more

Of course I'd like England to win but it's good to see the West Indies in better shape.

Teess. It also occurs to me that with the Windies bowlers running amok and the English batsman shattered - why give the batsman the chance to regroup ?

In the event, it's all gone the Windies way so far and as a result of batting again, their batsman will be feeling very confident for the next Test.

On the contrary Roger, better to keep the English batsmen in the field for more than 100 overs while your bowlers sit with their feet up in the air conditioning then have go at bowling them out again on the 4th and possibly 5th days. England bowled poorly in the first innings (apart from Anderson), batted poorly and picked the wrong players (Curran and Rashid) rather than the right players (Broad and Woakes).

England drop Jennings and Rashid to bring in Denly and Broad who will both play. A late decision to be made between Curran and Leach with Curran favourite to continue. We must bat better in this test and I expect us to rack up a big score. Shame its not on telly.

England drop 1 of their 3 wicketkeepers, Ben Foakes, to recall the hopelessly out of form Keaton Jennings. Predictably Jennings failed again caught edging to slip for 8. But not before he was lbw to an unreviewed ball and dropped in the slips. Root failed once again both on toss and when batting. I believe he won every toss in Sri Lanka and has lost every toss here. Stokes and Buttler rescued England in the final session but not without controversy. Stokes was caught and bowled by Joseph, walked off and was sat in the dressing room when recalled to the crease after the 4th umpire spotted that Joseph had overstepped.

Hi Teess - the media concluded that England were dominant at close of Day 1 - I thought that was premature and sure enough, the last SIX fell for 46 - dreadful

But great to see Mark Wood bowling fast, up to 95 mph - it's a long time since we saw an English bowler as fast as that

Coming on as second change - just 8 overs - FIVE for 41. Amazing and thank you Mark.

Let's hope England don't get skittled today - it's possible. And let's hope Mark Wood stays fit in the longer term, to perform at speed

I watched a lot of the England innings and it was amazing stuff. Buttler went from 51 to 100 in 15 balls. Only Universe Boss (Chris Gayle) could prevent an England win and he nearly did! Buttler hit 12 sixes so Gayle hit 14 but they fell short after Rashid took 4 in an over.

Obviously it would have been better to win by 4 wickets but that's just the way the rules are. England won in accordance with the rules (potty as they are) and well done them.

IMO one day cricket is often a lottery on the day but I'd guess over 5 games, England would have triumphed over NZ. Stokes and Buttler saved England this time after Roy, Root, Morgan, Woakes and Plunkett scored a dire total of 45.

The Press are getting hysterical of course but this is nevertheless a very fine England side - hopefully their efforts in the coming Test series against Australia will set that in stone. IMO we have at least 6 'World Class' players. ATB

Based on that NZ should have won by 2 wickets.

That was my immediate thought as well. That the team that lost fewer wickets would win.

But then I considered how that would change the teams approach to the game and it might take away the excitement that we witnessed yesterday.
