All games are off this weekend. Wrongly in my opinion.

It's out of respect for the Queen. nothing wrong with that.

I get that Jivvy - I too was very sad indeed to hear of the Queen's passing and even today I am finding some of the news coverage very moving. I suppose my view is that if cancelling the football would actually help anyone in any way I'd go with it. But we have King Charles now and life has to go on.

So on balance and IMO, I don't feel it would have been disrespectful to play on.

And TW was not the only one to shed a tear or two - I'm sure of that.

We all remember Thailand when the last King passed - my Mrs wore black for 6 months.

Anyway, as someone aptly said, R.I.P. Queen Elizabeth the Great

Another take on the 'respect' issue in the DT today :-

"Football was isolated in cancelling the entire weekend’s fixtures on Friday night as other major sports resumed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Test cricket, golf at Wentworth and Premiership rugby all play on Saturday after getting the Government green light to return.

But, during cross-sport talks, Mark Bullingham, the Football Association’s chief executive, outlined a firm position to call off the national game following the death of its long-standing patron and grandmother of its current president, the new Prince of Wales. After much deliberation over the past 24 hours, the Premier League and Football League agreed on a complete shutdown that includes the grass-roots game.

The decision prompted some dismay, with the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA) and grass-roots organisations lamenting an “opportunity missed” to let fans and players pay immediate tribute to Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. . . . .

Next fixtures are scheduled from Friday 16th thru Sunday 18th. Only 9 matches currently with Brighton v Palace off due to a train strike! Also some doubt over London games with the useless Met apparently unable to cope! In Ukraine they have just started their season.

I can understand there may be increased pressure on police resources in London but why is Man U v Leeds off? The train strike causing the postponement of Brighton v Palace has now been cancelled but game still off. The FA must be regretting their decision to postpone last weekends fixtures now after seeing how the situation was handled at the cricket. Football was denied the chance to pay its respect. Now there will be a fixture backlog with teams like Leeds going almost a month without a game.

Slimeball and Caller got both results correct last night. Not much will change today as everyone has forecast the same 3 outcomes.

Thanks Teess. So you're returning to the UK shortly ? I hope all is well. Or is it to catch your team while they are well up in the Championship ? It would be really strange to see Sunderland back in the EPL after all those years of struggling in the lower leagues - but it happens !!!   ;)

Only here on 30 day visa which expires shortly. On return to UK will look at options to return in November for 3 months or so. I see 45 day visa comes in soon but not aware of any changes to Tourist visa.
