Wales football manager Gary Speed has died, aged 42

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) has told the BBC it appears Speed, the national manager for nearly a year, killed himself.

Cheshire Police confirmed he was found dead at 07:08 GMT at his home in Huntington, Chester. They said there were no suspicious circumstances. n a statement, Cheshire Police said: "At 7.08am on Sunday 27th November Cheshire Police was informed of a sudden death at an address in Huntington in Chester. "Officers went to the scene where a 42-year-old man was found dead. "The next of kin have been informed and have confirmed the identity of the man as Gary Speed.

Speed, born in Mancot, Flintshire, took over the Wales job in December 2010, and earlier this month, said the side's rapid improvement had exceeded all expectations.

Speed had appeared on BBC1's Football Focus show on Saturday afternoon, just hours before his death. Speed, who was awarded the MBE in the 2010 Birthday Honours, leaves a wife and two children.

Very sad indeed!

I guess we'll probably never know what drove him to do this, but he seemed to have everything going for him.

I wish there were many more professional footballers like Gary Speed. He played with confidence, never shirked a tackle, rarely complained to the ref, and always got up as quickly as possible after a tackle.

A model professional both on and off the field.

I remember vividly when he clashed heads with team mate Ivan Campo when they both went for the same ball. He just got up and got on with the game after having several stitches in a head wound.

My condolences to his family.

R.I.P. Gary

I imagine you saw him playing for Bolton, KW.

It's so sad that he died so young and even more so that he took his own life when he seemed to be doing so well. It just shows that one never knows what's going on inside the heads of others.
