I usually send about 25 Christmas cards to Friends and Family in the UK but had already decided to give it a miss this year and had emailed around - (also not wanting aged Aunts etc. to be hanging around UK Post Offices at these times).

But today I had to post some B'day cards to my Grandsons AND the usual 19 Baht has become 36 Baht and that's PLUS a 40 Baht surcharge = 76 Baht. Still cheaper than from Europe to here BUT a loss of the previous bargain price !   ::)

I just sent Christmas card to the US. Sent them registered  so that I could track them. They were 375 baht each! Last year it was around 150 baht.

In the 'old days' it was much easier; one bought a load of Christmas cards, wrote a line or two and sent them by post a week or so before Christmas for not a lot of money.  In our sitting rooms Christmas cards stood on every available space or were draped around the walls on string.  No more, alas!  Apart from the sheer convenience of writing and sending an illustrated e-mail, the length of time for cards to reach their destinations, the current exorbitant cost and uncertainty of their arrival due eg to postal workers striking has all but doomed them.  Sad!

It used to be a bargain but it ain't now !

Having decided to send Christmas Cards this year, when I found out they would cost THB135 each to send, I am afraid they were consigned to the bin   >:(

It'll be emails for me this year and in a way, that's better, as one tends to say a little more than one would on a card   :-\

I prefer using email too. But with two of the cards I included a check as a Christmas present. The third one was for my brother who doesn't have internet.

We're not sending cards this year for the first time - only immediate family. Even a small number of cards would end up being £50 for cards and postage with them all ending up in the bin come 7th January. We'd rather make a donation to the food bank that will genuinely help, which is much more in keeping with the Christmas spirit.
