the siri hotel is cheap and clean (and near the sportsbar and the george and dragon)
but the beds are too hard for my personal taste. (totally thai-hardness beds)
rooms are about 500 baht a night i think for the basic and up to 1200 baht a night for a larger room.
(i may be remembering that wrong but that should be about right)

the simathani is more expensive but WELL worth it. very comfortable and clean rooms. pool. exercise facilities. room service. GREAT buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

i'm not sure how much my room was regularly - i booked through agoda.com and got 40 or 50% off (i booked on friday during a special half-off promo), and i used agoda.com points for $25 and i paid like $40. so probably $130 US a night regular price? but that was free breakfast and it wasn't the standard room. it was a step-up... the... deluxe room? i don't remember what it was called. i wanted to move in. i really loved it.

I've not stayed in all the hotels mentioned, but of the ones I have stayed in:

- the Dusit is very nice, great rooms, great breakfast. But you need transport - in many ways very similar to the Sima Thani and Mely's observations.
- The Sabai hotel is OK.
- I've stayed at the Punjadara numerous times: not lavish, location is OK, reasonable rates. Not much English spoken, and this is also a busy hotel for coach stop-off's, weddings, meetings etc. It can get very busy in the evenings and the mornings (i.e. absolutely packed).
- The Airport Hotel is basic and not comfortable.
- V-One is decent.
- Hermitage is a bit grim - the rooms are huge but the hotel is very tired and it is out of town.
- Chayada Resort is good value; quiet location, fairly close to town (only a few minutes by tuk, and you can walk if inclined). The rooms are like mini-apartments. Probably one of my favorites in Korat. The staff are very friendly (see http://www.chayadaresort.com/index_en.php)
- City Park has nice rooms and a good location in town and very close to the Mall - for anyone not familiar with Korat this is possibly the best choice.

I think most can be booked via Agoda.com.

R rom D is very good, only two minutes behind the Walrus Pub. Its best to phone ahead as they are very busy.

better than agoda?

do they also give you points that you can redeem for free rooms / extra discounts?

i've been very impressed with agoda and after just a few stay i had enough points to redeem for a free night

Are the hotels in the list in any particular order?

I usually book with Agoda or Asiarooms.

You will not find anything of the Dusit standard in town: the closest (in standard) is the Sima Thani.

If you want to be in town there is the San Sabai (http://www.sansabai-korat.com/en/index.htm). It is almost next door to the George and Dragon, and everything is pretty much in walking distance. But don't expect anything like the Dusit!

The KR hotel and Jom Surang hotel are near Korat night bazaar.
The Sri Patana hotel is opposite to check inn pub.
The Chao Pha Ya hotel is near Klang plaza shopping center.
The City Park hotel and KS pavilion hotel are near the Mall.

Long live to long learn

Hi just a quick question last time we stayed in Korat we had to be near Maharat hospital as step son was in there (RIP), but we stayed in a hotel on the main highway I think, big car park out the front and nice comfortable beds, they also had a buffet breakfast in the morning (pretty average). I have forgotten the name of the hotel, any BMs have any ideas which one is may be?

Thanks in advance,
Kev

There are several hotels on Mitrapap Road. The Sima Thani Hotel, the Ratchapreuk Hotel, the KS Pavillion Hotel and the City Park Hotel. They are all not far from the Mall. The Sima Thani Hotel is on the same side of the road as the Mall, the others are on the opposite side. The Ratchapreuk hotel is quite near Big C.

There's also the Pegasus Tower Hotel, which is not far from Maharat hospital. Its address is Mitrapap Road but it's on the stretch of road between Big C and Joho. The V-One hotel is near the Pegasus Hotel and nearer to Maharat Hospital but it's not located on Mitrapap Road.

As far as I recall, all those hotels have good sized car parks.

Ratchapreuk Hotel
311 Mittraphap Rd, Nakhon Ratchasima.

I'm afraid this one ought to be removed from the list. It closed down for good 2 days ago, April 18. It seems it had been for sale for a long time without success.

Ratchapruek Hotel is under renovation and due to re-open by the end of this month as Fortune Rajpruek Hotel โรงแรมฟอร์จูนราชฤกษ์. New sign already on. Room photos in this article (in Thai). It's already on hotel booking sites.
