"I don’t really understand the tax laws about non resident for tax but find it strange that you can make money in/and from the UK  then move out to a favorable tax haven and not contribute back." (Jungle)
I have been 'non-resident for tax purposes' since I retired in 2001.  I have two pensions, both from the UK Government.  They are lumped together and taxed at source, which I can do nothing about, but it has also meant that I can still make covenanted gifts to eg charities.  I have no other income so cannot claim to know what the tax position would be if I did.
As an afterthought, this has naff all to do with the subject of the thread!

The General Medical Council has removed all mention of “mothers” from a maternity document for its staff . . . . below is the concluding para of this DT article. I find the extent to which this nonsense has permeated important institutions, to be quite disturbing  >:(

" ‘Ideologically driven pressure groups’ - Heather Welford from With Woman, a group of midwives and other maternity clinicians activists, said: “The decision by the GMC to obscure the fact that only women have babies is ideologically driven, medically inaccurate and unhelpful to women and babies. It moves away from the drive for plain English and makes medical literature unclear.  “It can confuse healthcare messaging, potentially harming women and babies. It is also insulting to women, for whom the identity of ‘mother’ is often very important.

“For medical professionals, the sex of a person is salient to their health care. Reputable organisations such as the GMC should not be changing language on a population level to pander to ideologically driven pressure groups.”

In July, it was revealed that the Bank of England brought in a similar policy whereby the word “mother” was substituted for “birthing parent” in its family leave policy. Also in July, a charity advised medics to refer to a vagina as a “bonus hole” to avoid upsetting transgender people. Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust was accused of dehumanising women. Other “non-inclusive language” such as  “breastfeeding” was advised against in a report commissioned by the Department of Health, with “chest-feeding” proposed as an alternative to help trans and non-binary people who feel “marginalised”.

The GMC said in a statement: “We have clearly titled maternity, paternity and adoption policies for our staff, which we review regularly

Hi Jungle - don't let your extreme dislike of Nigel Farage affect your good judgement  ;)

In the BBC link : ""While no bank, building society or payment firm reported to us that they had closed accounts primarily due to someone's political views, further work is needed for us to be sure," said FCA boss Nikhil Rathi.

The watchdog's investigation looked at data from 34 banks and payment companies covering the period from June 2022 to June 2023. It said it had reviewed a number of cases where political views or other opinions were cited as a cause for closing an account.

But in none of the cases was this the main reason, with customer behaviour, such as the use of "racist language directed towards staff", most often to blame. However, the watchdog acknowledged its findings had been "gathered from firms at speed" and said it would be doing "further work" to verify the data. "

Ha ha ! None of the Banks reported themselves !   :-\

A thorough piece of work apparently Jingle  ;)

Roger Its my good judgment that has lead to my dislike and distrust of Mr Fa- rage :0)
So far the report " said it had reviewed a number of cases where political views or other opinions were cited as a cause for closing an account".and id didn't find any thing there .
True its a rushed report but (that the minister requested "speed up") so far no evidence and i doubt there will be in the report due later this or next year ,we shall see
Worth noting no mention in any news of all the other claims that were report the same time as Farage's  wonder what happen to them ??

Jung it's not really about Farage, but about banking.

NF may be the catalyst but he did us all the greatest favour by bringing attention to it.

And Banking as a whole - the guilty HSBC Boss leaving with a massive payoff - because she was innocent   :-\  Or that's just the system  :-X

Hi Roger
I don’t really remember saying it was about Farage even though he is central to the story
But it’s also about the media coverage of this like ,what’s happened to all the cases previously reported like the vicker  and the reporter who reported accounts closed because of their LGBTQ views ? Not a peep
For me I can’t really see why anyone so far  would think Farage has done anyone a favor as so far there are no cases of people being denied bank accounts due to political beliefs..

Couldn’t agree more about banking in general .I still can’t understand how no one was held accountable over the 2008 credit crisis

Jungle - "Dame Alison Rose, chief executive of NatWest Group, which includes Coutts, has said sorry to Farage for “deeply inappropriate comments” made about him in official papers, adding she is “commissioning a full review of the Coutts processes” on bank account closures. It comes amid concerns about banks blacklisting certain customers. The former MEP, one-time UKIP leader, and ex-Brexit Party leader alleged that Coutts – a private bank linked to high net worth individuals – “exited” him because of his personal politics.

He said this claim was backed up by a 40-page “prejudiced and nasty” Coutts document created by the “metropolitan elite” to explain its decision

So far all I see is” deeply inappropriate comments “
Did they say he was like an Arthur Daley but without any of the  redeeming features?

An outbreak of sanity on this subject ?

"MPs who believe ‘women have a penis’ will be named and shamed ahead of general election. A new website will allow voters to instantly find out whether their MP thinks women must be born female.

An “army” of volunteers in an apolitical new grassroots campaign is gearing up to meet all MPs and parliamentary candidates at hustings events and on their doorsteps to ask each one the question: “What is a woman?” Their answers will be video recorded and uploaded individually to a website which is being launched in the coming months. It will allow voters to find out instantly whether their next MP thinks women must be born female and that binary biological sex cannot be changed, or whether they believe that male-born transgender women are women too.

Sharron Davies MBE, the former Olympic swimmer and feminist campaigner who has been appointed as the campaign’s first ambassador, said it would let voters “know if their MP will stand up for women”.

The trans debate is likely to be one of the fiercest battlegrounds of the 2024 general election, with many MPs especially on the Left in a muddle over the definition of a woman. The Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has said “99.9 per cent of women... haven’t got a penis”, while the Lib Dem leader Ed Davey said a woman can “quite clearly” have a penis. Meanwhile, Sadiq Khan, Labour Mayor of London, has said: “A woman, when it comes to biology and sex, is an adult girl… trans women can also be women as well.”

But the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has attempted to draw a clear dividing line between the Tories and opposition parties by insisting “a woman is an adult human female”, though some liberal-leaning MPs on his own benches still disagree with that.

A source close to the new campaign said: “Through an army of grassroots volunteers, the campaign will ask every single Parliamentary candidate, of all parties, that simple question: What is a Woman? “We will record their responses (or prevarications) and upload the footage to a dedicated website accessible for all. “This is not about lecturing or trolling MPs – far from it. We are apolitical. This is about transparency and honesty
.” "

I keep mentioning the alarming extent to which 'woke' culture has entrenched itself deeply and widely - here, the state of the National Trust :-

"To keep its houses open to the public, meanwhile, it is heavily reliant on the many volunteers who give their time unpaid. But the treatment of volunteers is another sore point . . . .

. . . . Volunteer staff of many years’ standing, meanwhile, tell of their despair at the imposition of “convoluted, patronising and largely irrelevant (for volunteers) ‘mandatory learning’, which covers topics such as diversity training and institutional racism”, as Anne-Marie Jordan, who spent a decade volunteering at Ightham Mote, in Kent, puts it. Jordan gave up volunteering last November, after the Trust enforced the training, threatening those who refused with dismissal. “There was no common sense to it,” she says. “It was all politically correct – typical of HR these days . . . . .

. . . . . So in which direction is the Trust headed – heritage and history, or politics and polarisation?

The Telegraph ran a similar story last year this time
There appears to be a battle for influence on the board same as last year
Thus the “they are forcing me to be woke “
