I read today of yet another farang (a Brit this time) falling from a balcony (this time in Chiang Mai) and being treated in hospital for multiple injuries which - once again - his insurance company has declined to cover, so yet another 'Go Fund Me' plea - understandably.  What is it about travel insurance these days that no-one seems to have the cover when an accident occurs?  Are people just cheap-skating on the insurance cover and hoping nothing will go wrong, or are the insurance companies at fault for not spelling out their cover in language that a layman can understand?  Whatever.... it seems to be coming a bit of an epidemic over here!

I think we're hearing about more cases of insurers applying the alcohol exclusion clauses. Very few people are aware of them, and happily go out and enjoy themselves thinking they are covered. It's a very grey area as to what amount of alcohol (or drugs) would trigger the exclusion - in theory it could be any amount if the insurer felt it was a contributing factor.
