Hi Pookie, in my experience, Bkk is like a ghost town during Songkran. It's great! Get anywhere easy and the place to yourself. It's just that all the local noodle shops are shut!

I drove from Bkk to Korat on Sunday. A horrible 7 hours! Seems like the getaway started early. Traffic to Bkk was very light. Heading to Khon Kaen tomorrow to spend songkran there. Should be fun.

But I enjoyed some great songkrans in Korat. Always good fun.

I've only spent one Songkran in Korat. Thoroughly enjoyed it - was in a prime spot outside the George & Dragon getting soaked and being soaked. For me it was a one-off treat; I can imagine it loses its appeal quite quickly!

Hey CK - I doubt Korat's Songkran has quite returned to what it was years ago (2011+) - then it was spectacular. Perching at the patio at the Chaopaya Hotel, central, seemed just amazing. Quietly sipping a LeO with speaker trucks everywhere, young Ladies dancing on the roofs of,  just fantastic. The streets packed solid! Lasting for 3 days and 'nights'.

Problems later with the Lads scrapping.

But I think that whole scene ebbed before Covid. I hope they had a great time this year.

Chantaburi was just crazy last night - our short visit showed gridlock at the edge of town at 8pm.

But tonight - back to normal.

On my bike ride to Laem Sing today, my tyre collapsed halfway. I plodded with the bike back 2 km to Ban Sa Kaow where there was one of these 'Coffee stations' that are erected on these holidays. I was sat down with a cold water and offered coffee and food. A man appeared on a motorbike and rode off with my bike in other hand. Back 10 minutes later with the puncture repaired, Refused to take payment.

Thank you very much Thailand  :) :) :)

Its very heartening that human kindness is very much part of the Thai character: long may it continue.
