Boy, does that bring back memories.  We shopped at Costco and often bought those hot dogs or polish sausages.  The pizzas were
really big.  If that is a current sign, the prices have not gone up.  I can't believe that they make much money on the food court and I
think that it is used to get customers into the warehouse.  Miss that.

Our two Ikea superstores here have 30 baht ($1.00) hot dogs.
I think they need to offer you something to help compensate for locking you into their establishment and not being able to get out until you get to the other end, grueling that place.
We have a Costco here to that opened about 18 month ago and I remember when I had a tour when they opened the massive pizzas they had there.
You need to pay 50 bucks per annum to shop at Costco, I can't justify that personally.
Sure they have things cheaper if you want to buy in bulk and they have a basic range of flat screen TV's that are a bit cheaper than the electrical retailers and I'm sure other things.
But a lot of wood ducks don't realise that you can barter the price of electrical goods, and furniture.
I have a friend who worked at Harvey Norman who are our largest electrical and furniture and for years I have always got cost price + $5.00 on everything I bought until he recently left and went into real estate sales  :( but he used to love it when people walk up and paid the retail price.
He also said that most furniture was marked 100% sometimes more.

That has been one thing that has always puzzled me.
Things (on the whole) are so much cheaper in Thailand than they are here, or other parts of the world....No doubt about that!
But some things are not cheaper or pro-rated with the economy for example, homogonised and pasturised milk costs about the same as it cost here last time i cared to investigate. You might book a Thai airways flight a bit cheaper than you would for the same distance if you booked here, so does that therefore mean that Ikea is going to be cheaper to buy things? I dont think so.
Therefore, as cheap and cost effective Ikea is, they are not going to sell the same item that they sell for 100 dollars here fore 30 dollars there because that is the scale of eceonomy.
So does that mean that when they open in BK Noi taht they will only cater for rich folk?
Or does it mean that the average factory worker on 200 or 300 baht per day will not be able to buy sruff there, so they will struggle and not be able to keep the business going, or in fact, you think they will have cheaper prices in accordance to the different strnght of the dollar?
Hope this makes sense, does in my mind.

they can sell it cheaper due to wages alone then there is land cost and building cost ohhhh transport cost etc.

so i think they can do it cheaper here than say aust. they only need to pay 60aud per week here not 600aud

Brett ,  I am for ever getting emails from friends back in the Uk, ( who have either visited here or taken their Thai partners back there ) just how a lot of food stuffs are cheaper and better quality there , than here in LOS , it seems the own brand items in the hypermarkets and discount stores are of better value and over quality , including clothes , alcohol etc .

i was wondering the same thing actually, brett... about IKEA.
While IKEA products were insanely cheap for me when I lived (and worked) in the States... if they are sold at the same prices here, they would generally be out of my budget. So I hope that they scale their prices according to the location's economy but if not, I will still be excited to go check it out. I'll just only be able to buy 1 or 2 items rather than 30.

At least you can by something, they all sorts weird and wonderful nik naks there.
Last time I was dragged there was when we extended, we came away with a whole heap of stuff including our second kitchen, also a tv unit which was only $100.
That's the problem with tv unit, the price is normally circa $600 for an entry level, personally I can't justify spending that, rather hang it on the wall or put it on the floor, but Lek doesn't.
