I know this may be an old topic , but as some one who likes a good bottle of wine , which of course includes hearing the traditional pop of a pulled cork, the subject of wine in plastic bottles is I'm sure close to many wine lovers hearts. I remember my old grandmother saying that she would never drink tea unless it was served in a china cup, she was convinced the the tea did taste far superior if served in a china cup, I'm wondering if granny's theory may in some small way be transposed to the wine in traditional glass bottles Vs wine in plastic bottles issue . I can't honestly say ive had any wine from the ubiquitous wine in a box to compare with the glass bottle , so I can't readly comment on that score .

So has any one here drank wine from one of theses devilish plastic wine bottles, do you think that my grandmothers china cup theory could be applied to the wine in traditional glass bottles Vs wine in plastic bottles subject , or do you think it really does not make the slightest difference what the wine comes in and wine is wine  ;D

I've never drunk wine from one of those devilish plastic wine bottles so I can't comment on that but I think your grandmother's china cup theory is good. I prefer tea in China cups (preferably Bone China), coffee in glass cups and beer or cider from glass bottles and not cans.

My mother drinks wine from both bottles and 5 litre cartons/boxes. I'll ask her if she can taste any difference, but I suspect not.

I don't know what all the fuss is about.

In Canada & Kiwi land I have been able to by Cuvee Du Carton, (wine in 4 liter cartons) for a few years now.
Wine from France, Italy, Chile, Australia, South Africa to name a few.

Inside the carton is a plastic sac with a pouring spout. one would last me a month, but I think some here would be able to dispose of the contents quicker I would assume!!

Can you get the 5 litre boxes in LOS? I have never bought one. I think that I may have sampled the odd glass over the years and, if my memory serves me well enough, it wasn't half bad. Anyone tried a box in Thailand? Was it drinkable?  :D

You can get strong drink in placky bottles from duty free (probably a good idea to save weight on the plane).  ;D

You can buy boxed wine at the liquor shop in The Mall and at Tesco-Lotus. I buy the Mont Clair red (from South Africa) which is about 960 baht for 5 liters. It's not great, but very drinkable as an every day wine.

Welcome, Sir! That's interseting as I find the Mont Clair eminently drinkable! Good value.  ;D

It is a good value. You can figure that the five liters is about seven bottles at only 140 baht each. If you're buying by the bottle you have to spend considerably more than that to get a wine that's anywhere near as good.

Well, I think that it is 5 litres of red and 5 litres of white for Christmas. That should see us through Christmas lunch, anyway!!  ;D
