Rats - it's really very open of you to make that statement. I'm sure that you are not the only one and maybe something will come out of that. Some of us in Thailand are not in the right position or lucky enough to find a circle of affinity and it IS more difficult being abroad as we are.

(The 'Golfers' seem to be the best placed bunch IMO.)

Good luck. I hope things look up soon.  :)

Thaiwolf.     That's not being positive for the new season.

Sorry, only joking. I'm actually very optimistic about the new season. Can't wait for it to start.

Ratsima, when you get back and if you fancy a chat over coffee or beer, I am not far from you I think - Homeland 3?

That's a very kind offer and I thank you for it.

But, it kind of misses the point, which is that there's really no place to go in Korat to meet up with people. I know there are klatches who coffee together at The Mall. And, the golfers and SwatCat enthusiasts seem to have cultivated affinity groups. But, the rest of us are really left out.

As I've mentioned, I lived on Saipan for 26 years; a place where it was impossible to not have friends. I worked. I sailed. I did scuba diving. I did the Hash. I ran competitively. I had a TV show. I had a high profile job. I was awash with friends. I was never lonely. It was marvelous.

And then I come here and experience the kind of isolation and loneliness that I thought only existed in depressing novels.

I have come to hate the place and the isolation that it imposes on those of us who are shy and introverted.

I should have never left Saipan.

I just stumbled across this thread. It might not be too much use to you if you live on the other side of town but you would have plenty of options around the Joho area. As well as Nok Bar you have River Bar, CJ Bar, Lecker Lecker and O&D. All of these places have a regular crowd and you would be welcome in all of them. They are all places that are predominantly aiming at an expat crowd.

Support your local bars - we want your business and we want to give you a good experience. There is no shortage of nice expats to have a chat with  in all of these places if that's what you're looking for.

All of those bars are far from me. My only transport is a bicycle. I need a place within a few K of my home to and from which I can cycle safely at Happy Hour. There used to be several such places in the vicinity of my home. They are all now gone.

I would be happy to support a local bar. If only there was one.

Hi Ratsima. I'm sympathetic to your problem - it would drive me mad if I didn't have people to talk to. On the plus side it's much easier to get taxis here than it was a few years ago, especially with the arrival of Grab. I know it's an additional expense but it's your best option if you want to go out, have a couple of beers and get home safely.

I visited a place called 'LAMUR' ?
It's about 200 metres past the 'Walrus' location same side . . .

We were early and the music was enjoyable - at one point two 'not young' Ladies were singing and another time, two Guys - just pleasant middle of the road Thai songs. Not too intrusive. Plenty of (say 15) young Ladies there but they leave you alone unless asked. We left about 9pm but the place is open until 4-5 am  ???

Private Karaoke rooms available   :-\

3 Chang for B159 Pleasant food not expensive at all. OK for a 'quietish' beer early on !!

So I must have passed this place many times going to electric shop or Chinese shop. Must have a look one time.

All of those places are closed now, leaving those of us on the west side with no place to go.

Is this a new one? I noticed it the first time last week but I don't pass by there often. You need to enter Mitthapap Soi 4 from the Sura 2 road, where there's a traffic light at the new PTT gas station: Google Maps: The 90 bar club & restaurant

Thanks Anton. Have you had a chance to go in yet? If you do, and it is a place you think is worth expats visiting and you meet the owners/ manager, would you be kind enough to mention our forum and that we really try to help local businesses; very happy to post their 'What's On' but better still if they can create an account and post on the forum themselves.

I never got in until now, I don't go out at night. Should the occasion arise I will do what you asked.
