Thailand reports 122 new coronavirus cases, raising total to 721
(Reuters) Thailand has 122 new coronavirus cases, raising the total to 721, a health ministry spokesman said on Monday at a news conference.

are the people listening social distancing as the English bar pattaya still serving drinks reports  thepattayanews.co.th

Officials at Mo Chit - the busiest bus station in Thailand - were checking temperatures of passengers entering the facility, sanitising hands with gel and giving advice, particularly about the wearing of masks.  But people were pictured crammed together on platforms with little regard for social distancing. Many fear that the outbreak, hitherto felt most keenly in Bangkok, may now move to the provinces, notes Thaivisa.

Aswin: Please don't leave Bangkok   bangkokpost.com
Health ministry guidelines for self-isolation

Bangkok governor Aswin Khwanmuang has asked people not to leave Bangkok, where shopping malls and other at-risk places have been shut down to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Pol Gen Aswin made his plea for cooperation in a live broadcast on Facebook on Monday.

He said the spread of Covid-19 is serious and continuing unabated. He thanked people who refrained from going out to crowded areas.

In the past three days, he said, the number of people travelling out of Bangkok was about 10% higher than usual. About 90% of those leaving Bangkok were migrant workers from neighbouring countries rushing to  border checkpoints before they were closed, he said.

In his speech, Pol Gen Aswin made the following call:

- For people not to travel out of Bangkok;

- For people to stay home and keep themselves and their residences hygienic;

- For state and private agencies to lay down measures for the prevention of Covid-19 in line with instructions from the Public Health Ministry, including social distancing of 1-2 metres;

- For those who frequented boxing rings, entertainment venues or other places where people were infected with Covid-19, and people who had close contact with them, to go into self-isolation and seek medical treatment immediately if they experienced symptoms of illness;

- For people to avoid going to crowded places;

- For all activities involving the participation of many people to be cancelled; and

- For all mass transport services to reduce the density of passengers.

The Public Health Ministry also issued an urgent announcement on Monday calling for people who left Bangkok and nearby provinces for their hometowns to keep themselves in isolation for 14 days. The ministry advised them to do as follows:

- To not eat or share food containers with other people;

- To not share personal items such as towels, pillows, water glasses, forks and spoons with other people;

- To frequently wash their hands with soap and water and/or apply 70% alcohol on them

- To avoid close contact with other people, especially the elderly or those with a chronic disease; and

- To wear a face mask and inform local health officials immediately if they have a fever or a respiratory problem.

Waterheart - "This is not virus from China,Korea, Japan but it's virus from Italy." Whilst the virus may change over time, it originated in China and they must take responsibility for it :-

"Beijing may take umbrage at Donald Trump’s constant reference to the outbreak as “the China virus” or “the Wuhan flu”, but the American president is simply stating the obvious, namely that the worst public health crisis the world has witnessed in a century originated in a Chinese wild animal market at the end of last year. Moreover, the slow response of the Chinese authorities in dealing with the outbreak, together with the ruling Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) initial attempt to conceal the true extent of the crisis, may well explain why it is Europe, and not China, that now enjoys the dubious distinction of becoming the pandemic’s epicentre.

By that time Dr Li was at death’s door having contracted the virus, while the tens of thousands of travellers making their way from Wuhan to destinations around the world guaranteed a local crisis became an epidemic of truly global proportions. To compound their incompetence, the Chinese authorities made matters worse by failing to cooperate with the World Health Organisation to anything like the necessary extent, denying the outside world access to crucial information that may well have prevented it becoming a pandemic. Yet, rather than accept responsibility for causing the crisis, Beijing is seeking to rewrite history by silencing its critics, while positioning itself as the lead aid donor for other countries afflicted by the virus."

It should be from tomorrow 26, but I from what I understand the actual curfew time is yet to be officially announced.

Skip the first 30 seconds of this video, these 2 guys had been living in China for a number of years so tend to know what is happening INSIDE China. This gives you the perspective that you otherwise wont get from ANY new media, not even the west.

Something's happened to our thread here, but mai pen lai.

The last link I remember posting was this :-

One of the CCP’s guiding principles is that nothing can be allowed to undermine its supremacy. This would explain why, rather than heed the warnings of Dr Li Wenliang, the doctor who first identified the terrifying threat posed by Covid-19, the Chinese authorities denounced him for “rumour-mongering”, and either ignored or played down the risks until well into January. By that time Dr Li was at death’s door having contracted the virus, while the tens of thousands of travellers making their way from Wuhan to destinations around the world guaranteed a local crisis became an epidemic of truly global proportions.

To compound their incompetence, the Chinese authorities made matters worse by failing to cooperate with the World Health Organisation to anything like the necessary extent, denying the outside world access to crucial information that may well have prevented it becoming a pandemic."

It's the virus that came from China and it's not mutating apparently . . .

Me to a Poster elsewhere - "you've long noted 'Test test test' as being overwhelmingly important and it's particularly true in trying to keep NHS Health teams as free of Covid-19 as possible - (even if the test is not 100% authoritative).

This crisis is uniquely difficult but our Govt. has not done well - herd immunity, lockdown and testing policy each woolly and dilatory IMHO. As ever, better late than never but my thoughts are with you Guys. GL."

The pace is picking up in Th. now and their management of the crisis is patchy to say the least.

I wouldn't bet my house on this but . . . good to see. And one of many stories around the World . . .

"Scientists from the University of Oxford say they have identified a potential vaccine for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that is the cause of the COVID-19 epidemic, which has claimed more than 15,000 lives worldwide. A team from Oxford say they have identified a vaccine candidate and are working towards the first clinical trials.

The Oxford team’s vaccine contains the genetic sequence of the “spike” protein found on the outside of the coronavirus. After vaccination, the surface spike protein of the coronavirus is produced, which primes the immune system to attack the coronavirus if it later infects the body. According to the team, a chimpanzee adenovirus vaccine vector (ChAdOx1), developed at Oxford’s Jenner Institute, was chosen as the most suitable vaccine technology for a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine.

This is because it can generate a strong immune response from one dose and it is not a replicating virus, so it cannot cause an ongoing infection in the vaccinated individual. This also makes it safer to give to children, the elderly and anyone with a pre-existing condition such as diabetes. Chimpanzee adenoviral vectors are a very well-studied vaccine type, having been used safely in thousands of subjects in vaccines targeting over 10 different diseases

From the same Poster inside the NHS in the UK :-

"A great deal has been said about face masks. The problem is one size doesn't fit all. In the ITU I work we require at least 5 different types to fit different shaped faces , for example Phillipino staff have delicate features and mostly need one type ....totally different to say a burly "fat UK guy ! In normal times you only stock a few boxes of different types as the need is not there . These are running out fast... compromising staff . The NHS gas been running like a "business" for many years now and we are encouraged to have only a minimal stock of items at any one time . This applies to equipment, drugs etc etc . Every hospital is now placing emergency orders and the system can't cope.
Ventilators...the prototype machines I see on the web being produced would do a great basic job ...but that is the problem...too basic. Very simple lesson for you guys : Take a deep breath in. That is your inspired Tidal Volume . Times this by your average breathing rate per minute = your inspired Minute Volume . Tidal volume (7mls per kg on average )..say 700 X respiratory rate of say 14=minute volume of 9800 or 9.8 liters per minute. This Miniute volume allows the oxygen to enter your lungs and carbon dioxide to be expired out. A basic prototype ventilator could achieve this. However it's SO MUCH more complicated. Covid patients get a respiratory syndrome called ARDS (adult respiratory distress syndrome) . This affects lung compliance ( ie how stiff your lungs become), fluid "shifts"into the lung making oxygen/ c02 exchange difficult. To treat this the ventilator needs to time both the inspired and expired breath to a set ratio allowing the oxygen and carbon dioxide time to "exchange". The vent needs to stop the exhalled breath from complete expiration....this "holds open " the lung to stop collapse of the delicate alveoli where the oxygen/co,2 exchange happens. If this fails the alveoli collapse and you loose lung function. Modern vents are very complex machines and basic ventilators won't cope with covid 19. The death rate once in ITU is 50 percent after 3 days... even on the complex vents.

Don't want to spread alarm but I hope a reality check will make you self isolate and encourage others to do so .

I have been informed that in Phimai two tourist sites have been closed. Phimai historical park is closed from now until 25 April and the Banyan Tree area is also closed but I have no dates for that closure or its future opening.
