Good morning.

Could anyone recommend a reputable contractor that builds houses.

Hi xlnttt - suggest you tell K-F's whereabouts it is you want to build  :)

Just an idea - hunt around your locality, down the side roads etc.  where there might be a house going up - you might see some quality work and can then talk to the Builder.

Good luck.

Haven't used this guy, but as he's an expat the house might be better built than one built by local builders.

This book is also a good read and tells you some of the construction problems that you can come across with Thai built houses.

Roger's advice is very good.

If you are looking for 'British' builders, there are a tiny handful. Alan The Builder is well-known. I googled, and found this company: William Property. The website seems very light on real details or real projects, but I was interested in the designs because frequently Thai houses are very 'same/same' (just as they are in the UK!). But interesting designs usually means interestingly shocking costs.....! Treat with caution: there are MANY out there who will view a building project as a cash cow.

Perhaps it might be worth searching-out a young, creative, hungry Thai architect - someone keen to add to their portfolio but not in a position to charge crazy money.

Worth looking also at Huf Haus. Some great design ideas. Sometime soon someone (with deep pockets) will bring the pre-fab house concept to Thailand. Huf is expensive but real quality.

xlnttt - in your area an American 'Kurt' built a place and he would be a good contact I suggest. See if you can find him - (he's very tall and used to be a Tourist Policeman). He no longer posts here but you might find him on Korat Fart forum under "Baby Fart' moniker. He'd be helpful I'm sure. If so join and PM him.

Someone here might know where he is and could PM you. GL
