Oldies for me today, and three with a Jamaican connection.

One I remember well from my youth. Desmond Dekker - The Israelites.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8YWBvD_dhk" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8YWBvD_dhk</a>

Another from the 70s. Bob & Marcia - Young, Gifted and Black.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubDVUQon5BE" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubDVUQon5BE</a>

Football fans might recognise this tune. I believe Chelsea play it at home matches, but I have heard it at Yeovil Town home matches when the players come out. Other football teams also use it apparently. The Harry J All Stars - The Liquidator.

Finally after years of oppression we are free
The world broke free: no more fears, violence, injustice, barriers, walls
I'm proud that I can declare that we really got free of everything!
The only thing that I couldn't do is... to get free of freedom
(Giorgio Gaber)

Freedom (La libertà, 1972)

I wish to be free, free like a man
I wish to be free like a man

Like a newborn man with only nature in front of him
Who walks in the woods joyfully pursuing adventure
Always free and lively, he makes love like animals do
Careless like a man who is satisfied with his own freedom

But freedom is not staying upon a tree
It isn't the flight of a bluebottle, either
Freedom is not an open space
          Freedom is participation

I wish to be free like a man

Like a man who needs to roam with his fantasy
And who can do this roaming only within his democracy
Who has a right to vote and spends his life delegating
And who found his new freedom in being bossed around

But freedom is not staying upon a tree
It isn't having an opinion, either
Freedom is not an open space
          Freedom is participation

I wish to be free like a man

Like the highly-civilized man who stands with his intelligence
And who defies nature with the undisputed force of science
Eager to go wandering, without limits, in the cosmos
He is convinced that force of thoughts is the only freedom

But freedom is not staying upon a tree
It isn't a gesture, an invention, either
Freedom is not an open space
          Freedom is participation

Highway 61 revisited by Bob Dylan, one of the most seminal albums in rock history, is turning 50 tomorrow.

You won't find the original version on Youtube. Here is a version I like of "Like a rolling stone".

I'm not sure that some members have posted this song or not.
But it's the first time I hear this song.
Then I'm feeling good.  ;)

According to a user comment on Youtube, the King Crimson 1974 USA tour was being closed by Ten Years After. I don't know if that's true, but surely great stuff by both famed groups at that time.

Hi Anton, I don't understand part of your post ...

"was being closed"? Can you rephrase it somehow, please?

They were touring together, with Ten Years After performing after King Crimson, if I understood well. So Ten Years After were "closing" the concert each night. Hope this is clearer  :)

Frank Zappa's last posthumous album was published in June this year. In Zappa's own words it is "a synclavier album called Dance me this which is designed to be used by modern dance groups" (source). It's mainly electronic music, a genre I personally don't appreciate in Zappa. Three tracks stand out as they incorporate throat singing, including by master Tuvan singer Kongar-ol Ondar. Here is the title track.

When I was young (a few years ago) I always thought of Joe Brown as a makeweight in the world of popular music and did not realise how much he was respected by other musicians.
Joe was asked by Olivia Harrison & Eric Clapton to sing ‘Here Comes The Sun”, ‘That’s The Way It Goes’ and to close the show with ‘I’ll See You In My Dreams’, a favourite song of George’s
Here he is closing the 'Tribute to George Harrison concert'

Probably you never heard about Italian band I Nuovi Angeli. In the late Sixties-early Seventies they strung a series of catchy tunes, some of them so irresistible that they could have smashed into the international scene if sung in English with proper promotion. This one presents a special tribute to English pop music: the entry is almost identical to that of an old song by a historical British band. Can you tell which one?

A trip to England (Un viaggio in Inghilterra, 1972)

Her scented skin, her colored mouth, why? - For love!
Her black hair I've been loving until yesterday, yet - I must go!
What a grief - Ah ah ah I will leave - Ah ah ah I will leave

A trip to England - By a jet taking me so far away from you
A trip to England - Doesn't mean that I'm ready to forget about you
Blue-eyed little girl, in my heart you'll remain
Laugh with me, don't cry no more, you know I love only you

I'm beside my self, I wish I was flying up there already - In the sky
Don't cry honey, the flight is just one hour and then - I wil call
And then I'll come back - Ah ah ah I'll come back - Ah ah ah I'll come back

        A trip to England...

My love, a few days after all... What is it to you? Don't cry baby it will pass

        A trip to England...
