I have heard some people say that the 80s was the worst decade for music. I disagree as every decade has some good music. Agreed that some decades are better than others. So I have been listening to some 80s music and enjoying what I hear. I know disco was big in the 80s but hey I like to dance.:)  Here's some you might have forgotten.

One of Nino Ferrer's best albums: La désabusion ("Disenchantment", 1993). Mickey Finn on lead guitar. I wrote about them in this topic before, see reply 643.

I quickly translated from French lyrics of two songs from it: the first, a solid blues rock, penned by Ferrer with Finn; the second, a homage to latin rock, penned by Ferrer with bassist Joël Segura. Pictures on both videos are paintings by Ferrer.

A new Dylan "Bootleg Series", covering the years 1979-81, is due to for publishing tomorrow, see here.

A few songs are already there on Dylan's Youtube page, see here.

One of several previously unreleased songs contained therein:

Poor Bob, one day after publishing his album, the standard edition is already out as a torrent release. I'm waiting for the deluxe edition.

In the meanwhile two Dylan covers, the only two I like on this tribute album of 2014. The first is from Hungary, the second from Myanmar.

American musician Jonny Olsen (reply no. 644) is not the only farang performing Isan-Lao luk thung or "Thai country" songs. There are also Swedish singer Jonas Anderson and Anglo Dutch singer Christy Gibson who were active both individually and as a duo until recently. They both grew up in Isan; Gibson grew up in Korat. They are popular among the Thais and appeared often on TV as Jonas and Christy โจนัส-คริสตี้.

A 2014 TV appearance, first song starts at 1:55, second song at 8:42. Not my cup of tea at all  :)

"The old king is dead", from Johnny Hallyday's 1976 rock opera album "Hamlet".

Can you guess, without looking it up, what instrument was Joe Walsh playing here, starting at 2:53?

It sounds a bit like a Jew's harp/mouth harp or whatever it's called.

That's what I thought too, at first. In fact it's an ARP Odyssey synthesizer programmed to sound like that. See here for reference, and the video below.

Can get into the argument of "What is music?". Music is made by playing musical instruments. What is a musical instrument? Is it a instrument that physically needs to be "played"? Is a synthesizer a musical instrument? I guess if one was a purist then anything synthesized would not be music. Glad I am not a purist.  :D

Can get into the argument of "What is music?"

That's ground for endless discussion. Some extreme purists would hardly consider as "music" any of the songs posted in this topic. Better stick to Luciano Berio's definition: Music is everything that one listens to with the intention of listening to music (source:)

PS: Did you know that for Thomas Mann music is "politically suspect"? At least in the words of humanist philosopher L. Settembrini, one of the main characters in "The Magic Mountain". See here if interested.

Interesting article. Leaves a lot up for debate which I do not do anymore. Doen't go well with my PTSD. ;)  Personally I listen to music for the mental and physical enjoyment it gives me.
