The first thing ive managed to do is backup all the phones Apps and settings using a Free app called ... Titanium Backup .

I'm by no means an expert , so I checked out this Youtube video first ..

Great News  ;D

HTC finally gets it. The Taiwanese company will no longer lock the bootloaders on its Android devices. Rooting and flashing will be available to all. This news comes straight from CEO Peter Chou who made the following statement,

There has been overwhelmingly customer feedback that people want access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Today, I'm confirming we will no longer be locking the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, support and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC

The 10 Best Android Apps that Make Rooting Your Phone Worth the Hassle

only having my new Android phone for a shot while, ive not as yet tried many apps out , after seeing this article it only spurs me on  ;D

Android phones are spectacular little devices because they're able to so much that others simply can't, but one big snag in that greatness is that many of those best features require that the phones be rooted. Whether you plan on installing custom ROMs or not, you may want to root your phone just to use the great apps that require root access. Here are the ten most essential apps available for Android that require root

Have a look at the full article here ...

I bought my boy one of these for his birthday.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/7-ePad-Google-Android-2-2-WiFi-3G-UMPC-MID-Tablet-PC-/320723641462?pt=AU_Tablets&hash=item4aac9e6476
Not bad value, works pretty well, however, the bigger the screen, the slower they are.

Brett , That's interesting as a few weeks ago I saw on another Tech forum , some one in Australia commenting on this ..

it looks to be a very good seller where you are , the one you bought Ive seen on sale here in Thailand ...

I think the slowness could be due to several things including the processor speed , but for the money it looks great  ;D

Oh Bugger,
That Optus one was a far better deal with the included internet etc.
Wish I had known about it, although, this one he has isnt too bad.
The processor is a little on the small side and i think only 512 of ram, but he doesnt know any different
They are here again this weekend and funny that all they want to do is play with the iPhone.

The iPhone i unfortunately cant compare it to anything else as it is the first phone "of that type" i have used for work, the last one was a black berry, horrible phone that thing.
I can say that after spending a couple of hours to learn what i thought was going to be complicated wasnt.
Now i know, all i can say is that for now is that it is easy to use and its response time opening applications, games, outlook, bank aps, etc, it is super fast. The graphics are fantastic and the sound is very clear and can go very loud too which is good for an old hack with industrial deafness.
So again, nothingt to compare it with except the android tablet i bought for my boy and it runs rings around that. Downside is you can only buy whatever you want to read, listen, watch, play and install from iTunes "only"

K-F or kf?  :D :D :D :D

There are one or two Walter Mitty types around so this app might come in handy. However, they probably already have the app - so they can get urgent personal calls from the Whitehouse or from Fox News anchors!  :D :D

Alfie , good point , just a small slip up between K-F and kf  , its easily done when you are experiencing the amount of stress I am  :'(

some time back there was a small motor type show in the exhibition hall at the Mall , I was standing minding my own business just looking at a Hummer , when a big guy came right next to me and said Hi , where ya from , he blurted out I'm from the US of A , we got talking a bit , then he proceeded to tell me about  how last night he was walking down a Soi around 11pm at night when several guys started harassing him, as I stood listening to his story , he pulls out a large switch blade knife and starts waving it in the air , I stepped back a few paces when he said this is what I let them have . He folded the knife and put it back in his pocket and then went rambling on about his time in Desert Storm, and the undercover operations for the CIA . ;D

There are nutters all over the world but contrary to the typical expat in the Mall (search for references to the Mall Syndrome) the nutters in the Mall are more outgoing and sociable (so long as you don't harass them  ;D)
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
