ANYONE EAT BULLFROG?
« on: April 27, 2014, 01:56:27 PM »

I know many westerners do not eat bullfrog.  FYI, bullfrog meat tasted like chicken, but much, much better. The texture was finer and smoother, and the meat was much sweeter.

I missed this bullfrog porridge (congee)

It tastes more like dog than chickem Mr Quilter!

Having unintentionally eaten dog twice I can say that with some certainty :o

Most restaurants serve stir fried spicy frog (whole frogs chopped into very small pieces) with krapow ...

Till todate, still cannot find any restaurant serving frog legs in korat probably frogs (250 - 300gm) selling in the markets are too small ... ;)

BBQ frog stewed with betel leaves, galangal flower and aromatic wood.  I have eaten once in a friend house.

It started to rain here about half an hour ago and immediately the frogs outside started croaking. One ugly brown frog even jumped up onto my back door-step. I wouldn't eat it but the frogs legs in Quilter's first photo look tasty. I might see what's on offer at the local market.

I used to try in Thai food such as ผัดเผ็ดกบ (Pad Phet Kob).
But not often   :P

This dish is very spicy and 1 frog (weighing about 250 to 300gm) is not enough for 2 person ... ;)

I have tried them before (not great).
However, how do you kill a frog to eat? Serious question.

I've had very good fried frog legs prepared by my mother-in-law, but the chopped up whole frog disgusts me (too much bones for one thing)

If you buy live frogs from the wet market, the vendor will do everything as per your requirement/s i.e.remove the head, skin and the internal organs. As for me, I do everything myself ...  ;) The pair of hind legs for deep fry and the upper body and legs for "Pad Pet Kob". However, deep frying or bby the whole frog will be great ...

An enterprising Thai man in the next village is getting good money making very small wheelchairs for legless frogs?????  LOL

Just don't eat the variety known as CANE TOAD, they excrete a poison from glands around their head, if you have been wondering why your dog or cat has died, they've tried to eat one.  Their a pest  a ll across the top of Australia, and spreading rapidly.   I didn't know they were here in Thailand till a local showed me some.
