In December 2014 the Bangkok Post published an article about Kan Air spreading its wings with a new fleet. The article said that in mid-January 2015, Kan Air would introduce flights between Chiang Mai and Nakhon Ratchasima.

Kan airlines Facebook Page is now advertising flights between Korat and Chiang Mai for 990 baht. However, the Kan Air website's flight schedule page has no details of that route.

Kan Airline's telephone number is on the image below.

They probably give you a bus ticket to BKK or Khon Khaen and you fly from there :o

Wasn't there another small airline that tried the same route a couple of years ago? I could see it being feasible a couple of times a week on a small turbo prop but I doubt they could fill the seats of the plane in the photo. Also would the airport want to re-open just for a couple of flights a week? Maybe once/if Thai Airways use it as a maintenance base then it might happen.

The Bangkok Post article says the plane used will be an ATR 72-500. Wiki says that's "a twin-engine turboprop short-haul regional airliner built by the French-Italian aircraft manufacturer ATR". Apparently it has 66 seats.

Saga airlines - another small operator (and nothing to do with oldies, you Brits! ) tried to run a service from Hua Hin to Bkk some years ago, but gave it up after about a year as they simply couldn't fill the seats and started departing only when they had sufficient passengers to make the flight economically viable - for them!  Ergo, people stopped going as it was unreliable.  Added to which, by the time you had got to the airport, checked in, made the flight and checked out the other end and got yourself into Bkk, you would have been better off to have taken a bus, car or taxi - no, not a train!  I don't think the Korat - Chiangmai idea will fly!!?

Wow I am impressed but I cannot see how it can be cost effective to open an entire airport and all that entails for 4 flights a week.

They certainly have an impressive turn round of 20 minutes!

It doesn't take long to board less than 10 passengers.

I had a wonderful flight to Chiang Mai on Kan Airways on Thursday! My partner and I are at the Royal Princess Chiang Mai at the moment planning our day here! The flight took about 1 hour 30 minutes. The plane was about 45% full (50 person capacity). Service was great. They even served dinner. We had Spaghetti Carbonara and the other choice was Fish Curry! But service very professional and highly recommended! We are returning to Korat Monday evening! Free Parking at the airport or they will pick you up at THE MALL!

I saw a big sign in Korat that said: Ticket Booth & free pick-up/drop off at the Mall Korat.

So it seems you can even buy your Kan Air flight tickets at the Mall.  Does anyone know exactly where the Kan Air booth is in the Mall?

Update on my trip! This morning we decided to rent a car! We called a car rent across from the hotel and they had no cars, but I remembered
Kan Air rented cars! We called them at 10:30AM and they brought the car to Royal Princesss by 11:30AM. A new Vious for 999 THB p/Day! Our flight is at 5:00PM tomorrow, so they said just keep the car and return to airport before the flight for the one day charge! So,
we also recommend them for car rental! Great Company!
