The National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC) will put on auctions its fourth generation mobile phone services for its 1800 MHz and 900 MHz spectrums starting November this year.

The auctions of the fourth generation licences came after Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha call for the national regulator to escalate the 4G mobile phone licence auction to boost economy.

At the press conference Monday, NBTC secretary general Takorn Tanthasith said the auction of the 4G mobile services on 1800 MHz spectrum will begin on November 11 this year while on the 900 MHz spectrum will begin on December 15.

He said there will be two licences on each spectrum for grabs.

He said the NBTC will also ask the International Telecommunications Union if its earlier studied starting price of the auction on 4G licences at 16 billion baht still appropriate.

He expected to know the reply from the ITU in June, before kicking off the first auction in November.

He also expected bidders for the 4G licences at three existing  operators.
