Hi TW - 3 points v Samut Prakan last week could save our TPL status  8)

Swatcats would be safe IF they can beat Chainat (who play Port ! and Chonburi) and Sukothai (who play RachaB and Trat)    8)

But it might be close if these 2 pick up other points - we'll get 'nowt out of Buriram I guess.

Thanks as usual

The Swatcats take on title contenders Buriram United this wednesday (2nd October,  KO 1900 hours,  TV coverage truesports HD3).

Buriram have not been at their best recently and I am hoping for a point.

Thaiwolf prediction : draw.

 NRFC 2 Buriram United 3

Attendance; 22463

A vital match for both sides began in front of a raucous, partisan crowd at the 80th Anniversary Stadium.

The Swatcats began confidently and their early endeavors were rewarded when Naruphol sent in a fine drive that the visitor’s keeper superbly tipped over the bar. With the hosts now bossing possession, Henri broke forward into the box, his cross was deflected to Hartmann whose shot from 8 yards was blocked - the Swatcats should be two goals up!!

With Buriram scarcely troubling the home defence, out of the blue, in the 20th minute, Jonsson volleyed in from 22 yards to give Buriram the lead - a real screamer!! Minutes later, disaster for the Swatcats when keeper Cunningham was only able to parry a deflected free kick and Ratthanakorn, following up, tapped the loose ball into the net.

Undaunted, the hosts pressed forward with Henri firing into the side netting and then in the 31st minute they deservedly pulled one back when Yaya Kunath latched onto an Henri back heel and, after great perseverance, scrambled the ball into the net.

The second half began and within minutes, Assumpcao struck a free kick inches wide with the keeper flailing but with Buriram now defending deep and with numbers trying to defend their lead, further Swatcat goals seemed unlikely.
After a period of relative stalemate, the game burst into life when Hartmann was set free just inside the Buriram half. His fine solo run was ended when his low drive was well saved by the keeper.

Buriram seemingly put the game to bed when they added a third goal when Supachok struck in the 79th minute, Ingresso then thumped a free kick narrowly wide as Swatcat hopes faded. The Swatcats then rallied and they cut the deficit with a superb overhead kick from Kitsada in the 93rd minute.

A fine battling performance from the Swatcats tonight. They were not intimidated by Buriram and gave it a real go. In front of a huge crowd, they matched the Buriram side for large portions of the game with the final result down to clinical finishing from the visitors.

Surely, based on tonight’s performance they will not be relegated. They now need to replicate this form in the remaining two games against Chainat and Sukhothai - I do however have my doubts that they have it in them. Chainat and Sukhothai are battlers and I guess it will be all about who wants it more.

There is now an international break.  The Premier League will recommence on 20th October when the Swatcats take on fellow strugglers Chainat.

For those who might have been confused by the reference to "Stingray" at last night's display,  the Swatcats were formally called the Korat Stingrays.

Thanks TW. Sounds like a good game, a cracking crowd and the Swatcats were more than a little unlucky  against the best team in the TPL.  ::)

Let's hope they keep that battling spirit going !!

We need a point or 3 in each of the last 2 games. It seems to me that Swatcats are playing more positively than under Joksic and are showing plenty of spirit. . .
I predict 2 wins in the last 2 games  ;)

Enjoy Buriram this weekend and look forward to the pics. ATB

This weekend is the penultimate round of fixtures of the 2019 season.

This is a vital match for the Swatcats as they travel to Chainat to take on the relegation-threatened Hornbills (Sunday 20th October, KO 1800 hours, TV coverage Truesports TS6).

This is a must-win fixture for the Swatcats and will be a close encounter. The result will depend on who wants the victory most and I think that team may be the Swatcats.

Thaiwolf prediction: Away win

TW and others. You must be VERY happy to see THAT essential result.

But IF Suphanburi beat Chiang Rai next week and Sukothai beat the Swatcats there'll be a playoff between the Swatcats and guess who, Sukothai  :o  That should be fun.

Essential win - the stand in Coach has done OK.  Am I right  ?

Look forward to your report, pictures and see you next week. ATB

I wonder if,  next weekend,  Suphan are losing late on,  the Swatcats and the Firebats may want to manufacture a draw.

Chainat FC 1 NRFC 3

Attendance; 4089

A vital match for both sides as they both battle to avoid the dreaded drop.

Chainat began energetically with keeper Cunningham forced to push out an early drive. The visitors displayed an early edginess commensurate with the importance of this match as Chainat pressed.

The visitor’s response was a Chalermpong free kick going inches over the bar and as they gained a foothold in the match, cracks began to form in the home defence, with Amadou, as usual, the main threat.

In the 23rd minute, the visitors went ahead when an Assumpcao free kick was parried into the path of T May T who prodded the ball into the net. The visitors then began to dominate with first Assumpcao then T May T testing the home keeper.

As the half drew to a close the visitors seemed comfortable and looked likely to add to their goal tally in the second half.

A minute into the second period, a defensive mistake put Henri completely clear but he hooked his measured shot inches wide of the post. Minutes later, this time Assumpcao found himself alone in the box but his weak shot was cleared, then substitute Hartmann latched onto the clearance but he missed from 6 yards.

In the 54th minute, the Hornbills introduced giant Ricardo Santos who made an immediate impact on the game. With every cross aimed at his massive frame and against the run of play, he rose majestically to nod home the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Seconds later Cunningham brought off a world class save from the Brazilian as Chainat pressed.

Amazingly Santos was again thwarted when Cunningham charged out to save at his feet. The Brazilian was not yet finished and his brilliant lobbed half volley bounced off the bar.

The Swatcats weathered the brief storm and Amadou went on a fine solo run that ended with a shot across the face of the goal. Henri then shot just over and with the hosts looking weary, Assumpcao fired in majestically from 22 yards. This seemed to suck the energy from the home side’s legs and they valiantly capitulated with their fate now sadly destined for Tier two.

The Swatcats were not finished and Assumpcao broke forward and put Hartmann clear inside the box. Unbelievably instead of shooting, he dinked the ball into the 6-yard box and the ball was cleared.

Well into stoppage time, “that Brazilian” drew a fine save from Cunningham, Chitchanok then struck the post with a low drive. The Swatcats then sealed a famous victory when Amadou’s persistence in midfield led to an Assumpcao tap in to put the visitors 3-1 up.

A tense encounter but at its conclusion a fine performance and victory for the Swatcats - put simply, they wanted it more. Great team spirit and desire shown by the whole team and in reality, the score could and should, have been 6-1.
The final showdown is now upon us as the Swatcats take on Sukhothai in the final match of the season.

A win or a draw will ensure survival, but if Suphanburi lose to Chang Rai, the Swatcats could afford to lose and still survive.

Looks like the sponsors are pulling the plug on PTT Rayong.  This has possible implications for the Swatcats because maybe only two teams will be relegated.
More news when I get it.
