Thanks Roger. It is a great place, well worth visiting and very easy to get to from the UK (we flew to Palermo from Liverpool - just three hours and very inexpensive).

Lots to see and do; driving is easy outside the cities but frankly manic in them; not a problem if you've got yourself covered by third party insurers! £40 covers excess for a full year!

I also covered my camera/ gadgets with a specialist insurer; more expensive, but they cover the 'sneak theft' issues that are not covered by most insurance which only covers demonstrable theft; mugging etc. Sneaky one this: I has no idea there was such a gap in insurance cover. And by far the vast majority of thefts are sneak thefts. Cost nearly £200 but covers £4000+ of technical gear for a year.

I've just had a quick trip to London (overnight). Flew into Heathrow for the first time in many years (and will probably be the last for many years as the route is being axed again). T2 has been transformed; I was amazed.

Beautiful sunny day and we came in over Canary Wharf. Remember when 1 Canada Square (the building with the pyramid on top) was the most impressive building in London visible for miles? Now it's part of the commercial jungle. And it's only 50 stories: how many in BKK are taller?

I stayed in a 'Gastropub with rooms' and it was very nice, but bloody expensive. Everywhere in London is expensive. The reason for this photo is not the display of gins; gin is the fashion item of the moment, and if you ask for a G&T they will ask which gin. And which tonic...Just wait until they ask which water you want your ice made with - it's coming. The shocking part are the dog treats on the top shelf, together dog drinks. Buy your dog a drink for £3.00.......
