Booze ban expands to bus drivers
« on: December 06, 2017, 04:20:05 PM »

Drivers of buses and other forms of public transport who are suspected of having consumed alcohol will be prohibited from operating vehicles in 61 accident-prone areas nationwide during the New Year period, Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said Monday.

"We have been in discussions with public transport companies under the MOT to make sure they do not allow intoxicated drivers to operate their vehicles under any circumstances," Mr Arkhom said. "Injury and death rates from public transport must be zero."

I'm surprised they need to "discuss" something like this at all!

Yet more controls coming up over public bus drivers:

Public bus drivers to undergo urine tests

In a bid to reduce road accidents, authorities will conduct random urine tests on public transport drivers and staff at Mor Chit, Ekamai and the Southern bus stations in Bangkok.

Tests will also be conducted at 19 terminals across the country, according to the Office of the Narcotics Control Board's (ONCB)'s secretary-general Sirinya Sitdhichai.

Again the spotlight is on the drivers and not on the companies that run them ragged. Bring in speed governors and tachographs and Thailand wouldn't have half the truck and bus accidents that it has, as long as it is properly policed of course.

Agree 110%. But can't have those at the strata of society with influence being accountable, can we?

Of course not. That would be unthinkable.

By the way, what is the latest of the Red Bull heir?

The death toll from Wang Nam Kieaw is now 18 ? En route Kalasin from a trip to Chantaburi's beaches. I can't quite work out exactly where it happened - maybe coming down from the top on Korat side of the mountains ?

The Driver confessed to the use of yaba  :o  Dreadful.
