HOP Brew House - New Brew Pub in Korat
« on: May 04, 2018, 04:37:56 PM »

HOP Brew House is now open on Sirinakhon Road in the Sueb Siri area, not far from the Hop Inn.

Open from 5:00 PM to midnight.

They brew their own beer and have four on tap. Last night the four were: IPA, Dunkel (dark lager), Witbeer and Radler (shandy). No other beers, on tap or in bottles was available. The price of a draft is 150 baht for 300ml.

The food menu is small and seems geared toward Western tastes: porch chop, German sausage, Salmon salad, etc. I thought the food was quite good. When I was there, all the other customers were Thai.

Live music (a solo acoustic guitar player) started around 7:30 PM.

I agree. I think you’ve got Thailand’s alcohol scolds to blame. The Mont Clair "wine" in-a-box used to sell for 200 baht per liter, it’s now 333. The English ales (Wells, Fullers) that used to sell for about 160 baht for a 500ml bottle now cost well over 200.

Lao Cao is still cheap....

In recent years, micro and mini breweries have proliferated in the UK and wider Europe - even in the USA I understand.

The first beer brewed on site that I imbibed, many many years ago, was the legendary 'Spingo' ale in the 'Blue Anchor' at Helston, a convenient stop when returning from cricket matches, all points west of there !

For me, HOP brew house sounds too pricey - obviously they've laid out big bucks putting the business together, but evenso !

So is it still illegal for someone to make home brew beer in Thailand?

AFAIK, yes, still illegal. Even if you get a micro-brew license, you can only serve on site; you're not permitted to sell for resale.

One of the oldest micro breweries on Thailand is Full Moon Brewworks. They now sell bottled beer, but it is not brewed in Thailand, but in Australia.
